BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC)- Sheriffs in Beaufort County have arrested a man who they say assaulted a sheriff's deputy while resisting arrest early Monday morning.

Jovon Nakia Donaldson, 21, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with 3rd degree assault and battery and one count of resisting arrest with bodily injury.

According to a report, Donaldson and another man, 47-year-old Marion Green, were seen riding bikes on Broad River Blvd. around 2 a.m. on the morning of October 8. When deputies approached the two men, Donaldson took off.

Deputies say when an official caught up to Donaldson and attempted to detain him for questioning, the suspect resisted and attempted to punch the deputy in the face.

Reports state the deputy received a right leg injury during the struggle, and was unable to pursue Donaldson when he ran away.

It was later discovered by officials that Donaldson was wanted for an outstanding warrant for an unrelated probation violation.

Deputies say Green was released at the scene after consenting to a search.

The injured official was taken to Beaufort Memorial, where he remains with non-life threatening injuries.
