BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC)- Deputies are investigating an armed robbery which happened at a Lady's Island Dairy Queen last Friday.

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the restaurant on Sea Island Parkway just before 11 p.m. Employees said three men entered the store through a back door, brandished handguns, and demanded cash.

The robbers left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The employees described the suspects at black males between the ages of 18-30 wearing dark clothing and masks concealing their faces.

Shrimping season opens in South Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The shrimping season has begun in South Carolina.

Wildlife officials say shrimp turned up in the state's waters earlier than usual this spring, prompting the decision to open the season Monday.

The shrimping season usually begins in mid- to late-May.

Natural Resources Department biologist Larry DeLancey says he expects a standard shrimping season this year.

Cold that killed shrimp in the winter of 2011 prevented the commercial season from opening until late June. Biologists had been worried that those losses would deplete this year's crop.

Several AC units reported stolen throughout Beaufort County

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC)- The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating several air conditioning unit thefts throughout northern Beaufort County over the last two months.

Since March 1, authorities have received more than two dozen reports of air conditioning units that have been damaged or stolen from vacant properties on Lady's Island, St. Helena Island and Seabrook.

Investigators say the units are being targeted for the copper they contain, which thieves are able to quickly strip from the units and sell for scrap.

According to the sheriff's office, increasing values of non-ferrous metals, precious metals and other raw materials has fueled the second-hand scraping market, which has incited spikes in the thefts of items such as catalytic converters, manhole covers, copper wiring and stainless steel.
