Lowcountry medical facilities to receive over 500K in grant funding

The Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will distribute $535,981 to numerous organizations throughout the Lowcountry. The grant funds are provided largely from community donations to the 2010 Komen Race for the Cure.

Several other fund-raising events, such as Rally for the Cure, held at various locations throughout the Lowcountry, also provided monies to Komen’s grant fund. The large grant recipients, considered awards of $10,000 or more, will be presented their checks in April.

Medication may not be effective against pollen allergies

Medication may not be effective against pollen allergies

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - One of the more irritating signs of spring is all the pollen. It's already covering cars and sidewalks.

Over the counter medicine isn't as effective as a prescription for getting some relief, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.

They also say eating local honey is a myth and will not fight allergies.

About one-third of people have a mild reaction to pollen allergies including an itchy, tingling mouth, throat or lips.
